Aug. 12th - Screenwriter Linda Whitmore (LITTLE GREEN MEND)

Watch the Screenplay Reading: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=podytSoBrMk

A plant-like-alien from a distant planet receives a school assignment to help another planet without revealing themselves and gets assigned Earth.

Get to know the writer:

Dribbit, a whiz-kid alien from Nergal, where all life is plant-based, gets a school assignment to do a good deed for problem-filled Earth. While researching (OK, eavesdropping on) our transmissions, he overhears Earth-girl Lindsay Monroe say, “Wouldn’t it be great if everyone were the same? The world would be perfect.”

A lightbulb moment for Dribbit! Of course! One race = no hatred = a perfect planet! Right? Dribbit surreptitiously rockets orbs of his “cure” to Earth to turn everyone into plant-based lifeforms … green! Plus, a positive side effect: No more global warming!

But realizing his good deed has created a deadly, catastrophic environmental imbalance, he rushes to Earth to make things right. He recruits Lindsay’s help in a cross-country adventure to solve and reverse the runaway greening before it’s too late.

Pursued by federal agents and a freaked-out public, the two barely escape to Nergal to enlist the help of Dribbit’s hero: the mysterious, two-headed Professor Rebnar. But even with his help, how can they save the Earth in time?

Falling Down meets Dude, Where’s My Car? Over 24 hours, a recently divorced accountant loses his job, his Jeep and accidentally traffics Heroin. His only escape? Become a beige pants badass aka a Dad Ass.

From the writer:

Premium Economy is How Stella Got Her Groove Back meets Dude, Where’s My Car meets Falling Down (without the racial animus). It’s funny with deceptively touching relationships, even amongst the criminals, and it would be a low budget movie to shoot.

Get to know the screenwriter:

May 15, 2023 - Screenwriter Jeffrey van Davis (THE EVIL THAT MEN DO)

Watch the Screenplay Reading: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FS6mHBwRaf8

When a police detective, hunting a serial killer, gets too close, the killer murders his wife and two children, sending him into a downward spiral of alcohol, suicide, and a near-death experience where God tells him to become a priest. Years later the serial killer reappears – in his confessional.

From the Screenwriter:

Good vs. Evil Not in the more orthodox religious view of Christianity, but in a Manichaean vision Norman Mailer discussed in my film, “Norman Mailer: The Sanction to Write.” The Manichaeans saw God and the Devil as brothers caught up in a battle til the end of time – a battle of good vs. evil. There exist an important third element at play and that is mankind, human beings. How we act (for good or for evil) will determine if God or the Devil wins. So as humans we bear an awesome responsibility, a terrifying duty, in determining the outcome of this cosmic battle.

May 7, 2023 - Screenwriter Andrea Lawson (The Road to Sorrowful)

Watch the Screenplay Reading: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JjWe3zqFzqk

In the afterlife, a murdered man meets a grieving mother who died during the Great Depression and has been ferrying souls through purgatory ever since for the chance to rescue her daughter’s soul from damnation.

Get to know the screenwriter:

I think my 1-hour pilot script would make a fantastic television show. Sure, it’s about death, but it’s also about choices, addiction, co-dependency, guilt, loss, forgiveness, and personal responsibility, all wrapped up in a fun, dark, dangerous world where the characters really are down to their very last chance.

Get to know the screenwriter:

While set in the past, Mother Superior has great modern-day relevance. The Plague foreshadows the disruptions of our Covid epidemic. Today’s struggles of women with a male dominated Church and civil society, and with their own faith, echo those of the protagonist.

In this satirical look at over-positive parenting, a desperate teacher tries to explain a student’s litany of crimes to a couple who can see no wrong. It’s Modern Family meets SNL.

Get to know the screenwriter:

The script tells the story of an exasperated teacher, desperately trying to convince a pair of over-positive parents that their son is a living terror. If I’m doing the cliche answer: It”s SNL meets Modern Family. This is a pure comedy
