EP. 1882: Filmmaker Hrant Yeritsian (CHASE 8)
Matthew Toffolo interviewed Hrant Yeritsian, the director of the short film "Chase 8" from Armenia, discussing his first filmmaking experience. Hrant explained that the title "8" represents the infinity symbol and endless peace, with the film depicting a chase sequence that leaves audience interpretation open. He described the challenging production process, including multiple location changes due to permission issues, a cinematographer who got sick during shooting, and finding replacement actors after the original actor couldn't make it. The film, shot in an abandoned factory over one day, explores themes of repetitive life cycles and the destructive pursuit of money, with Hrant planning future films on psychological topics like PTSD. Despite initial rejections from five festivals, the film won an award at the American University of Armenia and was later accepted into the Chicago festival, though Hrant noted European audiences may not connect with the content as well as American audiences.
